Blizzard Warning | Rhode Island Weather 6 AM

from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast

Good morning! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Rhode Island Weather Podcast. It's Tuesday, February 24th. Folks, the blizzard left us a parting gift. Twenty inches of snow on the ground. Six and a quarter fresh inches overnight. Step outside right now and you'll feel 26 degrees wrapped in that eerie silence only deep snow creates. Sunrise at 6:30 lit up a postcard. Enjoy the view.. Because the shovels come back out Wednesday. Today is your breather. Skies clear to mostly sunny. Highs only hit 30 degrees around 3 P.M. That's 8 degrees below normal for late February. Northwest winds blow 6 to 9 miles an hour, but along Narragansett Bay, gusts punch up to 25 miles an hour this morning. By 2 P.M. Winds shift west. That shift? A quiet signal of what's brewing. Tonight gets cold fast. Providence drops to 11 degrees by midnight. By 5 A.M. Wednesday, it feels like 11 degrees. Your car's going to protest. Down along the Bay, you'll dip to 17 degrees overnight, rebounding to 26 by dawn. Sounds milder, but wind chills still land near 10 degrees. Don't let that fool you. Now the plot twist. Wednesday morning around 9 A.M., a clipper system rolls snow into Providence. One to 3 inches before it flips to a rain and snow mix by late morning. The Bay sees 1 to 2 inches with rain taking over as temps climb to 38 degrees. Thursday gives you partly sunny skies and 39 degrees, but another light snow chance sneaks in by noon. Less than half an inch for most. Friday clears out after early flurries. Highs in the upper 30s. Then Saturday.. 44 degrees under sunshine. Almost feels illegal after this week. Sunday settles back near 40 with northwest winds returning. High tide hits Newport at 11 degrees:08 P.M. Today. And we gained 2 minutes and 44 seconds of daylight. Small victories. Charge your phone tonight. Cold kills batteries faster than you think. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
