Seeking some downtime after the death of her husband, Harper (Jessie Buckley) settles into a stately home in a quiet English country village.  Unfortunately, all is not as it seems.  The house's caretaker (Rory Kinnear) seems a bit off, and there's a strange familiarity to all of the men in the village.  The product of writer/director Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Devs, Annihilation), and released by A24, MEN is a phantasmagoric odyssey into the heart of the human psyche, folk horror for the moment.  Bradford and Eric agree the film raises more questions than answers, but that it's a wholly unsettling work featuring images and scenes that sear themselves into your brain, and do not let go. Background (spoiler-free) 0:00-10:55 Discussion (spoiler-heavy) 10:56-49:17 Awards (spoilers for days) 49:18 Our theme music is by Sir Cubworth, with selections from the MEN soundtrack by Geoff Barrow and Ben Salisbury. “Love Song” is by Lesley Duncan.   For more information on this film, essays from your hosts, and other assorted bric-a-brac, visit our website, scareupod.com.
