Breathing Art into Cities for a Greener Future | Dr Jasmine Pradissitto
Listen to this episode
Summary
Creativity, art and culture have a great potential for effectively tackling urban & environmental challenges and in supporting liveability. From ‘holograms you can touch’ in new and discarded plastics, to sculptures in pollution absorbing ceramics and cyanotype blueprints, Jasmine brings together her background as physicist, artist, public speaker and innovator, to address the diminishing air quality and unsustainable practices in our rapidly urbanizing world. I discussed with Dr Jasmine Pradissitto about her background & vision, and on how Jasmine is using art as a medium to address diminishing air quality and biodiversity in our urban areas. Announcement: Installation of 'Breathe' a sculpture by Jasmine in Noxtek in Euston above the Camden People's Theatre on 15 June 2021. Do check it out if you are in London! More information on Jasmine's work can be found at: www.pradissitto.com

The Future of American Cities
03/11/2022
media@bushcenter.org (George W. Bush Presidential Center)
Americans are reevaluating their priorities when it comes to where and how they live. The pandemic has spurred a mass migration of people over the past two years, with some cities experiencing vast population increases and others steep declines. But there is a recipe for success: For cities to be prosperous and have vibrant, opportunity-rich economies, they must build a highly educated workforce; provide a strong sense of community; maintain a welcoming approach to newcomers, including immigrants; pursue commerce-friendly policies; invest in walkable centers, greenspace, and good physical infrastructure; and offer an affordable quality of life. In this virtual conversation, Cullum Clark, Director of the Bush Institute-SMU Economic Growth Initiative, and Henry Cisneros, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, discuss how America can create more cities of opportunity. Moderated by Holly Kuzmich, Executive Director of the Bush Institute, the conversation addresses policy changes city and state leaders should prioritize to ensure future success.

Cities of the Future
01/29/2016
What will the cities of the future look like, and will we like living in them? Vast mega-cities are emerging, notably in the developing world, as people migrate towards urban centres in search of work. Cities in the richer world also need to find ways improve the quality of life for their inhabitants. How should urban planners cope with these pressures and develop strategies for the future? Owen Bennett Jones and his guests discuss how best to make these urban spaces the best possible places to live and work. Photo Credit: Thinkstock
