Meath County Council is set to write to the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration to ensure local communities are “properly informed in a timely and transparent manner” regarding contracts for International Protection Accommodation.The move follows a motion brought forward by Aontú councillor Emer Tóibín at the September full council meeting. The motion called for Meath County Council to request that the Department’s Community Engagement Team engage with local communities in advance of any contracts being signed.Speaking in support, Councillor Tóibín said there have been repeated instances across Ireland where communities were only informed after contracts had been finalised, and Councillor Toibin joined us on The Agenda this morning to talk to us some more about this.
