Calls for support for local GAA venue
It's hoped support can be afforded to the Sligo GAA County Board when it comes to addressing the state of the playing surface at Markievicz Park.Last Sunday, a crowd in the region of between 19 and 20,000 supporters were attended the All-Ireland football championship encounter between Donegal and Mayo, which took place in Dr Hyde Park in RoscommonThe chairperson of the GAA's Central Competitions Control Committee, Brian Carroll has said that had the Sligo venue been available that game would have been played Markievicz Park.Sligo-Strandhill Councillor Fergal Nealon says that unfortunately business community in Sligo has missed out on a financial bonanza.The Fine Gael Councillor says every support should be given to the Sligo County Board to ensure future big championship games can be played locally.
