Chess Piece: The Elián González Story

25 years ago this Thanksgiving,  five-year-old Elián González was found floating alone on an inner tube a few miles off the coast of Florida. He had left Cuba with his mother and a group of other migrants, but their boat capsized, leaving Elián the only survivor. His great uncle in Miami wanted him to stay in the U.S. His father wanted him to return to Cuba. The international custody battle then became its own mini cold war.
