Chicago’s Baby Plovers Get Musical Names | Chicago News
from Chicago News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Four baby Piping Plovers hatched on Montrose Beach have been given cool Chicago music-inspired names: Buddy, Frankie, Mavis, and Tweedy — honoring Buddy Guy, Frankie Knuckles, Mavis Staples, and Jeff Tweedy. Over 1,500 name suggestions poured in from more than 450 fans, and a seven-person panel picked the winners, noting the bird’s scientific name means “melodious.” Each chick got custom leg bands with Chicago flag stars — blue for Buddy, red for Frankie, yellow for Mavis, green for Tweedy — to help researchers track them. They’re now officially ready to fly (or at least act like it) by July 8th, marking a big milestone in their conservation journey.
