Choral Evensong with Sermon in Music – Trinity XI

from St Bride's Church, Fleet Street · host St Bride's Church, Fleet Street

Public worship at St Bride's is restricted due to the Covid-19 outbreak. This service of Choral Evensong for the Eleventh Sunday after Trinity, 23rd August, has been collated from archive live music recordings together with prayers and readings for the appointed day specially recorded in church and in people's homes. This service is sung by our professional St Bride's Choir. Responses: John Holmes Psalm: 95 Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis: Evening Service for trebles – Thomas Weelkes Sermon in Music: i) Ego flos campi – Jacob Clemens non Papa; ii) Pater peccavi – Jacob Clemens non Papa Organ Voluntary: Fanfare – Percy Whitlock Our Sermon in Music replaces a spoken sermon and features two pieces by the Franco-Flemish Renaissance composer Jacob Clemens non Papa (meaning ‘not the Pope,’ to distinguish him from the contemporary Pope Clement). Both anthems are exquisite. The first, unusually in seven vocal parts, sets words from the poetic Song of Songs; the second, in eight parts, sets Luke's telling of the Parable of the Prodigal Son.
