Colossians 2:5-7 - The First Step

Today, Tuesday June 1 The First Step Colossians 2:5-7 “For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.” It is so obvious today that we live in a fallen and broken world. On the outside so many of us look just fine, like we don’t have a problem in the world, but on the inside we are carrying tremendous emotional and mental burdens of guilt, bitterness, feelings of rejection, and every morning is a major struggle just to get up and face another day! My friend, I’m convinced with all my heart that God loves you and He is ready and able to meet the deepest needs and pain of your life! You ask, “Where do I begin?” Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33) God tells us in the Old Testament, “And you shall seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13) What is the first step? “As you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord….” (vs. 6). How do you receive the Christ Jesus the Lord? You must receive Him by faith as you turn from your sin and the way of the world. “For by grace you have been saved by faith, and not of yourself, it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) Now Paul says, that in the same way, we should continue to by faith to walk in Him! Paul told the Corinthian saints that, “We are to walk by faith not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). This means that every waking moment we by faith, believe and trust Jesus and His Word, and obey and do His will, instead of living on and going by our feelings! The false, self-serving philosophies of the world sound so reasonable, so logical and so believable that they can deceive us. I remind you that the devil “has come to steal, to kill and to destroy” but that Jesus came, “to give us life and to give it to us more abundantly” (John 10:10). It is a choice we have to make every day! To “walk in Him and with Him” up the narrow way that leads to life, or to follow the multitudes going down the broad path that leads to destruction.  The first step is to by faith receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior. The second step is to also by faith begin to “walk in Him” every day! God bless!
