Colossians 3:17 - Secular or Sacred?

from Pastor Mike Impact Ministries · host Michael L Grooms

Today, Thursday June 17 Secular or Sacred? Colossians 3:16-17 “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. One of the biggest mistakes that we can make in our lives is to separate the sacred from the secular. Far too many of us think that we can have a secular life that is different than our spiritual life. We have a family, we go to work, we pay bills, we go the school, and we get involved in civic affairs in our communities. We go on vacations, we go to places of entertainment, we exercise, we eat, we watch TV, we play sports and we do “secular things”! We think our spiritual or sacred lives is only when we are praying, reading our Bibles, having devotions or Bible studies, going to church and doing “Christian’ service. We have gotten the idea that somehow they are two different things. But according to the Scriptures there is no such thing as the secular versus the spiritual. Here in verse seventeen, Paul pretty much covers it all when he says, “Whatever you do, in word or deed….we are to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus!” Why is this so? When God created Adam, He created mankind in His own image. Every human being has been created with tremendous value regardless of ethnic, social or cultural backgrounds. The Bible says that “eternity is in our hearts”. It doesn’t matter whether you live in the jungles of South America or the jungle of New York City, you are a person created in the image of God. It doesn’t matter what you have done or haven’t done in life, you are very unique and special! God loves the worst of us as much as He loves the best of us! So today, remember how special you are in God’s sight and heart, and realize that you are on earth for the purpose of glorifying Him, making Him and His Son Jesus Christ famous! Every word you speak and every deed you do, should be a reflection of His nature, His love, His grace, His mercy, His kindness and His heart! No secular!!!!! Everything is Sacred!!!! As you live for His glory in “whatever and everything”, you will experience His blessings and indeed find real joy and fulfilment in life! God bless!
