Common Core, Common Ground?
the critical question is what does it mean to be an educated American?
Summary
As children around the country head back to school, a majority of educators are adjusting curriculum to meet the Common Core State Standards, a near-universal set of academic criteria inspired by standards from the world’s highest performing countries. Adopted by 45 states and the District of Columbia, some argue that the CCSS is a federal takeover of education. Former chancellor of NYC’s department of education, Joel Klein says that no matter the politics, the critical question is what does it mean to be an educated American?

Using questions from the book Life Worth Living, Kelly created a game-show format and put each of her guests in the hot-seat - resulting in some very honest, thought-provoking and funny responses. Today’s episode features deep truths from the creator of Broadway’s brilliant smash hit Fat Ham, playwright James Ijames. Special thanks to the Aspen Ideas Festival, Tricia Johnson and Kara Stein.
