Wij van de Ripetta is een goed geconstrueerde roman die zich afspeelt in een steegje, de Ripetta, in het Rome van 1600.  De hooflocatie is een kroeg en het verhaal wordt verteld door de mannen die daar aan de toog hangen.  Onder die tooghangers is onder andere ook Caravaggio.  Op een bepaald moment valt in die kroeg ook een zekere Will Shakespeare binnen die zich in de discussies mengt.
