Connecticut Weather: 02-21-2026

from The Connecticut Weather Podcast

Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly, and welcome to the Connecticut Weather Podcast for Saturday, February 21st. Folks, enjoy tonight's calm. Seriously. Soak it in. Because a monster nor'easter is barreling toward us, and by tomorrow afternoon, Connecticut transforms into a snow globe someone shook way too hard. Right now you're sitting at 41 degrees. That's 8 degrees above normal. Mild, quiet, almost suspicious. Here's the deal. First flakes arrive between 6 and 7 tonight along the coast, then spread inland. By midnight, it's all snow. Lows drop to the upper 20s. Sunday is when this thing explodes. Snow falls at 1 to 3 inches an hour. Winds crank to 35, maybe 55 miles an hour along the coast. Southeastern Connecticut could see gusts near 46 degrees. That's blizzard territory. Visibility drops to zero. Travel becomes flat out dangerous. Now the totals. Down along the coast from Stamford to New London, you're looking at 9 to 13 inches, maybe 15 in spots. Hartford and central Connecticut, same range. Head east toward Norwich and Putnam, 8 to 12 inches, with the far southeast corner potentially buried under 17. Here's what keeps me up at night. Coastal flooding. A 2 to 3 foot storm surge hits during Monday's early morning high tide, around 11 degrees to 11 degrees A.M. New London and Middlesex counties face moderate flooding. Move vehicles to higher ground if you're near the shoreline. Blizzard and winter storm warnings are posted statewide. You'll want to prep tonight. Flashlights, batteries, backup heat. This heavy wet snow plus those winds means power outages are likely. If you've Sunday travel plans, cancel them. Here's your heads up for the week ahead. Monday the snow tapers but winds gust to 45 miles an hour. Highs barely crack 30 degrees. Tuesday brings sunshine but brutal cold, teens and single digits overnight. Wednesday flirts with light snow again. Thursday and Friday warm into the low 40s with rain and snow showers mixed in. One more thing. If this podcast helps you prep for storms like this, share it with a neighbor. We're all in this together. Stay safe out there, folks. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
