Connecticut Weather: 02-22-2026

from The Connecticut Weather Podcast

Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Connecticut Weather Podcast. It's Sunday, February 22nd. And folks, I'm not going to sugarcoat this. A historic blizzard is bearing down on Connecticut right now. And by tomorrow morning, you won't recognize your neighborhood. Right now you're at 33 degrees under gray skies. Feels calm. Almost peaceful. That changes fast. Snow starts along the coast near 4 PM and spreads inland by evening. By dinnertime, winds are howling at 40 miles an hour. If you're not home yet, get there now. Tonight is when this storm turns violent. Snowfall rates hit two to three inches per hour. Winds explode to 60 miles an hour. Visibility drops to zero. This is a textbook blizzard. And it will rage all night long. Now let me walk you through what your town is facing. Down along the coast, New London through Groton, you're looking at 10 to 16 inches with gusts to 46 miles an hour. Coastal flooding hits at high tide Monday around 12:42 PM. Up to two and a half feet of storm surge. Don't drive through floodwater. Slide inland to Hartford and central Connecticut. Snow arrives by 7 PM, heavy by 11. You're getting 9 to 17 inches total with 49 mile an hour gusts. Eastern Connecticut gets hammered hardest. Up to 17 inches tonight alone, with another foot possible Monday. Wind gusts reaching 53 miles an hour will snap trees and drop power lines. Wind chills plummet to minus 10. Charge every device you own. Fill your bathtubs. Have a backup heat source ready. Travel bans are coming tonight. Stay home. Looking past the storm, Tuesday brings bitter cold and sunshine. Wednesday flirts with 39 degrees and light snow. Thursday and Friday warm into the low 40s, but rain mixing with snowmelt means flooding risk. Saturday finally gives you sunshine near 42 degrees to start digging out. I'll be tracking this storm all night. Take care of each other tonight. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
