Connecticut Weather March 3 Midday - Winter Weather Advisory
from The Connecticut Weather Podcast
Good afternoon. Connecticut. I'm Aaron Jolly. Folks, we've a classic March battle unfolding right over our heads. A warm front is stalling just to our south, pulling Atlantic moisture into a shallow layer of cold air trapped at the surface. That warm air is winning the fight up aloft, turning snow to sleet and rain. But down here at ground level? It's hanging on to freezing. That setup creates the icy signature we're watching today. In the next 24 hours. This afternoon, you're seeing a wintry mix falling. Snow accumulation stays light, generally just a coating to an inch. The real threat is a thin glaze of ice from freezing rain, especially in the hills. Highs top out around 35 degrees. It feels raw with that damp east wind blowing at about 6 miles an hour. Tonight, watch for the transition to plain rain. It moves from south to north between 5 P.M. and 8 P.M. Until then, untreated roads could be slick. Temperatures hold steady in the low 30s overnight. Rain tapers off shortly before sunrise on Wednesday. Wednesday dries out nicely. Expect patchy morning fog to give way to mostly sunny skies. It becomes milder with highs climbing into the upper 40s. Looking toward the week ahead. Thursday brings another round of rain. That likely mixes with freezing rain again Thursday night. Friday looks chilly, raw. And wet. Then, a significant pattern shift arrives for the weekend. Highs jump into the 50s, nearing 60 degrees by Sunday. That rapid melt could cause some rises on our rivers and streams. Take it slow on the roads this evening, especially on the side streets. That ice can be sneaky. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
