Connecticut Weather March 3 Morning - Winter Weather Advisory

from The Connecticut Weather Podcast

Good morning. Connecticut. I'm Aaron Jolly. That biting cold you felt stepping outside this morning? We bottomed out at 28 degrees overnight. Light snow dusted the ground with a tenth of an inch. Now a messy wintry mix is taking over. In the next 24 hours. Here's what's happening. A warm front is pushing toward us from the southwest. Cold air remains trapped at the surface, especially inland. Warm air glides over that cold dome. And that's the recipe for freezing rain and sleet. A Winter Weather Advisory covers Litchfield County through early Wednesday. Snow transitions to sleet and freezing rain this afternoon, then eventually rain. Along the coast, highs reach 34 degrees with sleet likely by mid-afternoon. Rain continues tonight, peaking around 7 P.M. Central Connecticut sees freezing rain mixing in by late afternoon, highs near 35 degrees. Eastern areas also hit 35 degrees with sleet and rain developing by 2 P.M. Tonight's the tricky part. Temperatures hover near freezing inland. Untreated surfaces could glaze over. That evening commute? Take it slow. But here's the good news. Wednesday brings a turnaround. Morning fog gives way to sunshine. Highs climb to 48 degrees along the coast, 47 in central areas. And 50 degrees out east. That's nearly 28 degrees warmer than today and much closer to our March normal of 47. Looking ahead, rain returns Thursday into Friday. Then a pattern shift this weekend. Highs could reach 60 degrees by Sunday and Monday. Spring is knocking. About two weeks until the equinox. In Sunrise at 6, 24, sunset at 5:44. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight today. Tonight's full moon will likely stay hidden behind the clouds. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
