Cyclone Narelle, one of the strongest cyclones in Australian history with gusts reaching 315km/h, is crossing the Queensland coast and moving across Cape York Peninsula as a Category 4 system. The cyclone is expected to weaken to Category 2-3 while crossing land, then re-intensify over the Gulf of Carpentaria before potentially impacting the Northern Territory including Darwin and Groote Island. Heavy rainfall and flooding risks extend south to Cairns and Ingham, with the system forecast to remain active for up to two weeks.
