TRANSCRIPT · AUTO-GENERATED

Today is Saturday, August 4, 2018. Hi, my name is Adam Burton, and you are listening to The Daily Tivo, a short devotional designed to help you apply God's Word to your life. The content comes from the gospel project. Take a few moments and read Revelation, Chapter 1, Verses 9-20.

Nearly every book and commentary on the book of Revelation begins like this, Revelation is one of the most difficult books of the Bible to understand, and for good reason, it is filled with confusing language and images and seemingly endless symbols. Knowing how to read it is a mystery, let alone knowing how to understand it, and if we do reach the point of understanding Revelation, we discover how frightening it is. Strange beasts, odd creatures, angels, and demons, mysterious people, and massive destruction fill its pages. What is your experience with reading Revelation?

What is most challenging about it? Revelation is confusing and frightening. We cannot deny that. This is because Revelation fits partly into the genre known as apocalypses, which are traditionally full of vivid imagery and odd language, and almost always deal with judgment and in-times themes.

Some of the book scenes seem to belong more in a horror movie than the Bible, but we can and should read and appreciate the book of Revelation. You see, Revelation is not primarily about fear, but hope, not hellfire, but glory, not Satan, but God, not death and destruction, but life and salvation. We should not overlook judgment, hell, and wrath in Revelation, but we cannot miss Jesus' victory in the end. Because Jesus is victorious, those of us who have trusted in Him will be victorious as well.

This victory is what Revelation is about. God will bring eternity, a joyful place filled with God's glory for His people. And that is a hope worth sharing with the world. If you are in need of prayer, please get in touch with me.
