Daniel 5:7-28

V. The Feast of Belshazzar and the Fall of Babylon Daniel 5:1-31

A. The Feast — 5:1-4

B. The Writing on the Wall — 5:5-6

1. At that moment the desecration took place, writing appeared (v5)

2. The king’s face turned pale and his knees knocked (v6)

C. The Failure of the Wise Men — 5:7-9

1. ‘Interepret the writing and be rewarded’ (v7)

2. They could neither read nor interpret the words on the wall (v8)

3. The inablity of the wise men caused the king more alarm (v9)

D. The Advice of the Queen — 5:10-12

1. The kings mother entered and said “Don’t be alarmed” (v10)

2. She reminded him of what Daniel did for Nebuchadnezzer (v11)

3. Summon Daniel and he will interpret the dream (v12)

E. The Request to Daniel — 5:13-16

1. Belshazzar didn’t know Daniel personally and had to verify (v13)

2. “Insight and extraordinary wisdom have been found in you” (v14)

3. The wise men could not give the interpretation (v15)

4. “If you can interpret the writing, you will be rewarded” (v16)

F. The Response of Daniel — 5:17-28

1. The Condemnation of Belshazzar — 5:17-24

a. Daniel’s Answer: keep your rewards (v17)

b. The History Lesson— 5:18-21

1. God gave him greatness, glory, and majesty (v18)

2. Everyone feard him and he did what he wanted (v19)

3. His pride was the reason for his fall (v20)

4. He suffered madness and lived with the beasts (v21a

5. Until he recognized God is ruler over all (v21b)
