On the mountain, God is compelling a pagan seer to prophesy a King who won't arrive for a thousand years: I see him, but not now. Below, on the plains of Moab, Israel is yoked to Baal. What the curse couldn't accomplish from the outside, the drift nearly accomplished from within. And in the middle of the plague, one man stood—and the atonement he made pointed forward to the only One who could make atonement that lasts.
