DBWS Episode 20: Of Montreal with Andy Gonzales

from Don't Bother Wearing Seatbelts (An Elephant 6 Recording Company Podcast) · host andy Gonzales, Patrick Tape Fleming, patrick fleming, Rudy Fischmann, Mathew Bell

DBWS Episode 20: Of Montreal with Andy Gonzales In this episode of Don’t Bother Wearing Seatbelts, we sit down with former Of Montreal member Andy Gonzales to dive deep into Of Montreal’s beloved Elephant 6 classic, Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies: A Variety of Whimsical Verse. Andy takes us behind the scenes of the album’s creation, sharing incredible stories about recording the entire project on tape, the experimental spirit surrounding the sessions, and the bizarre, beautiful world of the album’s many invented characters. We talk about the record’s constant musical zig zags, its fearless creativity, and why Coquelicot remains one of the most adventurous and unique albums to come out of the Elephant 6 universe. We also learn the hilarious story of how Andy first joined Of Montreal, along with reflections on the collaborative magic of that era and what made those recordings feel so alive and unpredictable. If you love Elephant 6, psychedelic pop, strange storytelling, or hearing how truly inventive records get made, this is an episode you won’t want to miss. Andy also dives into his band Marshmallow Coast, and being a former member of The Music Tapes. Come back! It’s not like that! Our show is free, and will remain that way. However! Joining the Patreon, and pledging at the Reckless Driver level ($1 monthly) allows you to participate in our monthly giveaways. There will always be at least one giveaway per month, often there will be two or more per month, and each giveaway will include at least one piece of physical media (cd, cassette, or vinyl record.) There will be times that the winner can choose the format of the media that they receive, but as long as the album was pressed on vinyl there will always be that option available for the winner (we’re vinyl fanatics here at DBWS.) Sometimes it could be just the album in question, and other times there will be quite a few things included (t-shirts, stickers, artwork, etc..) We aren’t looking to turn a profit off of your donations, but they will definitely help us handle the shipping costs for the prizes, and various other production costs.  https://www.patreon.com/dontbotherwearingseatbelts https://patreon.com/dontbotherwearingseatbelts?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan&utm_content=copyLinkSpeaking of, Don’t Bother Wearing Seatbelts also has a Patreon!!!
