ZAPATA (Hardmatter Records / Berlin) Zapata is a Berlin-based DJ and producer who runs Hardmatter Records (@hardmatterrecords) and the recently-inaugurated Streetman Records imprint. Besides running these two labels, he also organises the “DiscoDisco” party at Berlin’s underground Repeat Bar, in which DJs are encouraged to break the four-to-the-floor mold by playing funk, jazz, afro, and anything else that falls in between. Alongside JVXTA, Zapata has worked with Javonntte and Malik Alston, among others, to curate a deep, jazzier electronic sound focused on live improvisation and soul. This mix reflects Zapata’s penchant for eclectic selections, but also keeps to dreamier, atmospheric sounds. The mix presents the DJ and producer in a more pensive and reflective mood, moving from the ambient sounds of Gigi Masin to dreamier New York cuts.
