Deep Dive into Foxe's Book of Martyrs by John Foxe - Rev. Richard Yeoman
from Reformed Thinking · host Edison Wu
Richard Yeoman, a devout aged curate in Hadley, was removed from his position by Mr. Newall, a Romish priest, upon his taking the benefice. Yeoman initially supported his family by wandering from village to village selling small items and exhorting people to remain faithful. After a brief detention in Kent, he secretly returned to Hadley and hid in the Guildhall chamber for over a year, where his wife begged bread for their survival.Information led Newall and constables to apprehend Yeoman in his hiding place. He was put in the stocks in a cage, where he found John Dale, an old weaver. Dale had been placed there for speaking out against the "superstitious religion of Rome" during a service, calling the clergy "miserable and blind guides."Newall insisted that Justice Sir Henry Doile send both men to prison. Overcoming Doile's initial reluctance, Yeoman and Dale were bound "like thieves" and taken to Bury jail. There, they were laid in irons and moved to the lowest dungeon for continually rebuking popery. John Dale, aged 66, died in the dungeon due to "jail-sickness and evil-keeping," and his body was thrown out and buried. After Dale's death, Yeoman was moved to Norwich prison. He was examined upon his faith but refused to submit to the pope, defying him and his "detestable abomination." His marriage and views on the Mass were objected to. Remaining steadfast in the truth, Yeoman was condemned, degraded, and most cruelly tormented in the fire when he was burnt.Reformed Theologian GPT: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-XXwzX1gnv-reformed-theologianPatreon: patreon.com/edi_reformed
