Cost, experience, time-zones, expectations - these are all barriers that will be broken. The sound barrier is just the destination. This is the journey. With over 150 students representing 65 universities in 15 countries on 5 continents, Project Boom was created with the goal of being the first student group to reach speeds in excess of Mach 1 with a jet-powered remote-controlled aircraft. The Project Boom team will perform all initial flight tests of their high-speed vehicle sometime next year. The purpose of these flights is purely for research and will represent a first in aircraft manufacturing.
