Ein Erbfolgestreit führte im Spanien des 19. Jahrhunderts zu zwei Bürgerkriegen und der Geburt einer reaktionären politisch-sozialen Bewegung: dem Carlismo. Benannt nach dem Bruder des verstorbenen Königs Fernando VII., versuchten die carlistas ihren Thronanwärter Carlos bzw. seine Nachfahren auf den spanischen Thron zu heben. Obwohl anfänglich eine militärische Kraft, war der Carlismo in nur wenigen Regionen verwurzelt und die soziale Basis schwand im Laufe des 19. Jahrhunderts dahin.
