English DescriptionGuest: Andreas KilcherAndreas Kilcher and Michal Hampe once again follow in the footsteps of Faust, whose first journey, guided by the Devil, ended tragically. Unlike in the first part, Goethe’s second Faust moves beyond the realm of personal tragedy and takes on a broader social scope. He brings, so to speak, the entire theater of the world to the stage. At the beginning, Faust is granted the gift of forgetting his deeds. Andreas Kilcher speaks of an amnesia that is also, at the same time, an amnesty. The Faustian striving, now a proverbial concept, continues in grand style, and in its wake come the tragic and possibly inevitable catastrophes. So, together with Michael Hampe and Andreas Kilcher, we must once again look closely—or rather, listen closely—to see where the wisdom of this text reveals itself. Send us an email with questions and comments to: [email protected]. This podcast was produced by Martin Münnich with the support of ETH Zurich.
