Digitally Yours Podcast Ep2 : Local Fact Checking initiatives - A story from Libya

In this episode, we focused on Local Fact Checking initiatives to combat the spread of misinformation online in the Maghreb region. We sat down with Jehad Omar from Libya, the founder of Aneer fact checking initiative. Jehad explained to us the findings of a survey conducted in the aim to further understand how and where fake news circulate online in Libya. He gave us a deep understanding on the particularities of the Libyan context. Jehad introduced Aneer initiative, explained the target goals that include both fact checking and educating Libyan internet users on how to seek verifications and not contribute to the spread misinformation in relation with the pandemic and the geopolitical tension the country is living. ________ Dans cet épisode, nous nous sommes concentrés sur les initiatives de vérification des faits locaux pour lutter contre la propagation de la désinformation en ligne dans la région du Maghreb. Nous nous sommes entretenus avec Jehad Omar de Libye, le fondateur de l'initiative de vérification des faits Aneer. Jehad nous a expliqué les résultats d'une enquête menée dans le but de mieux comprendre comment et où les fausses informations circulent en ligne en Libye. Il nous a donné une explication approfondie des particularités du contexte libyen.
