Dogs, Pigs, and Pearls

from FRCP Sunday Morning Sermons

In Matthew 7:6, Jesus shares a saying that almost seems out of place. After considering how to love our enemies, not judge, and taking beams out of our own eyes, we are now told that some people are "dogs" and "pigs" and that we can protect ourselves from them. This sermon explores how Jesus is avoiding a misinterpretation of his other teachings and telling us it's okay to be careful with the precious pearls of the Kingdom, and that silence can be okay when the other party has no interest in the things of God. Our way forward is a path of humility and sincere love for the lost, being willing to share when opportunities arise, all without being aggressive or divisive ourselves.
