Donald Trump took the SC Legislature to the woodshed over the weekend over districts
from The Tara Show
During the May 4, 2026, broadcast of The Tara Show, the second segment of Hour 1 focused on Donald Trump’s aggressive criticism of the South Carolina Legislature regarding congressional redistricting. Following a recent Supreme Court ruling that weakened the Voting Rights Act, Trump reportedly "took lawmakers to the woodshed" for their hesitation to redraw maps in favor of more Republican seats. The discussion highlighted a growing rift between Trump-aligned activists demanding an immediate partisan "offensive" for the 2026 midterms and state legislators who have been slower to act despite holding a GOP supermajority.
What this episode covers
00:06 Donald Trump already taking a South Carolina legislature to the woodshed over the weekends. Clearly who he's talking to, us and Georgia. We cannot, he posted on Truth Social, we cannot allow there to be an election that's conducted unconstitutionally simply for the convenience of state legislatures, yes. At least 12 congressional seats in South are now unconstitutional because they were drawn. 00:34 using race to elect Democrats by discriminating against white Republicans who, if, and black Republicans too, who if we drew the districts the way we've been doing it since the founding, in other words, constitutionally, we'd have 12 more Republican seats fixed. And this idea about race, this sticks to my cry. You know why? 20 % of black men, the highest ever, voted for Donald Trump. 01:02 So this idea that all black people vote Democrat and if they can't have a district specifically engineered to deliver a Democrat to Washington, that they are being disenfranchised, it assumes that they wanted to vote Democrat. But increasingly for black men, that's not the case. So this isn't race. This is Democrats once again using race to try to get white Democrat majorities in Congress. 01:31 to try to get power. The bottom line, and this is what the Supreme Court said, it's very simple, you can't use race to draw districts. You can't do it and you shouldn't do it. Special districts for Democrats. What about black Democrats who would like to elect a Republican? Nope, screw them. Now it's gotta be black people have to have a Democrat representative, what if they don't want a Democrat representative? 02:01 Or do they voted for Donald Trump? Oh well. That's gotta end. So Donald Trump, I'll tell you what's going on here with this, with this post he put. His folks have called around, they've talked to legislators in Georgia, they've talked to governors in Georgia, they've talked to him South Carolina, they've been told, no, we're gonna keep the Democrat, thanks. 02:23 That's what's happened. And that's why Donald Trump is saying we should demand state legislatures do what the Supreme Court says must be done, redraw the maps. 02:35 That is more important than administrative convenience. That is more important, he says, than the convenience of state legislators. That is more important than state legislators going on vacation this summer. There's just a few days left in our session. I I don't know, like three or four. So, call a special session. Do it now. Do it now. No, no, we gotta. They just wanna keep Clyburn in office. They do. 03:04 I'm telling you, the leadership here in this state, are liberals. They would run in any other state as Democrats. 03:12 They have to run as Republicans here, whenever they can help Democrats, they do and they will. If they can appoint a Democrat, whether it's to a judgeship, to lead the Supreme Court, they will. Folks, we have a two-third super majority of Republicans and we have Democrats chairing committees in Columbia. Why? I don't know. They sure as heck wouldn't let us if the situation was reversed. 03:36 So these are the same people and they're trying to figure out how to save Clyburn. 03:42 who they are. They're liberal. Well, I don't even know that they're Republicans. So I'm gonna tell you what's about to happen next. Okay. When we blast out Henry McMaster on this show, he acts and on the stations, not just the show. We always get a reaction when he was ignoring the fire here, just gaffing it off because he doesn't care about the upstate. We didn't vote for him. So he doesn't care. I took him to the woodshed for not showing up. He finally did a week after it started. And 04:10 You know, I blasted him Friday and that's why he put the statement out. 04:15 And the only reason he's doing it is because they want to get Pam evident. 04:21 So McMaster comes out of the weekend, but if you notice what he did, look closely at what he did. He says the legislature should take a look at the map. ...
