Donegal to host annual convention of Ireland’s whiskey industry leaders
Counting in the local elections in Sligo finished up just a few hours ago with a number of sitting Cllrs losing their seat. In what was a lengthy battle, the final seat in the Sligo-Drumcliffe Municipal District was eventually won by Fianna Fail Cllr Donal Gilroy with Fine Gaels Tom Fox narrowly missing out. The seven seats on the Ballymote-Tubbercurry MD were also fully filled in the early hours of this morning. Fianna Fail Candidates Liam Brennan and Barry Gallagher were both elected for the first time, and joined Michael Clarke (Independent), Paul Taylor (Fianna Fáil), Joe Queenan (Independent), Dara Mulvey (Fine Gael) and Gerard Mullaney (Fine Gael) who all retained their seats. Outgoing Fine Gael Cllr Martin Connolly was however unsuccessful in securing his seat. Speaking to Ocean FM earlier, Cllr Gilroy described it as a bittersweet victory:
