Dot two dot. A new skill every day. In five minutes. Hey guys Robin here.

Today we're gonna look at a skill called Journey 3000. The developer kind of brought this to my attention and kindly added on a sound effect at the beginning because I said it needs one. So it's really good this is all about the story. Apparently Edward Packard who invented the Choose Your Own Adventure genre back in the 1970s is still considered the master of the same and this particular story has two and a half hours in total of listening time and 32 possible different endings.

Let's give it a go. I like that. So open Journey 3000. Welcome back to Journey 3000.

You've explored 1% of the story. Let's pick it up where you left off. To restart the story, ask me to start over. Would you like to take a trip to the year 3000?

The person who asked you this question isn't crazy. He's your next door neighbor Dr. Max Freeman and he happens to be the incredibly brilliant scientist who directs the Space XX project. Why not?

You say with a smile. I'm serious. Dr. Freeman answers.

And do you mean you have a time machine? Of course not, Dr. Freeman says. It'll be several hundred years before he can invent anything that's sophisticated.

We have a method that's extremely advanced but it's a lot simpler than a time machine. Really? Look at that bee. A computerized, self-propelled orbiting space capsule in which the occupant goes into hibernation for almost a thousand years.

We've developed this in our lab. It's taken 15 years, 20 counting pre-development. But it's ready to go. And I could be the one who tries it.

Right. I recommended you because I know that you're smart, courageous, resourceful, reliable, fast-thinking and above all, curious. You can hardly answer. You're practically shaking with excitement or fear.

You can't be sure which. Am I right? Quick. Yes or no?

Yes. No. Yes. Terrific.

Dr. Freeman's eyes gleam as if struck with light. But wait, you say. How will I get back from the year 3000 to the present?

Good question. I did say time machines wouldn't be invented for several hundred years. But within a thousand years, certainly by the year 3000, they should be quite well perfected. I can't absolutely promise you, but if all goes well, you should be able to get back to the present and to everyone else that will seem as if you've never been away.

You take a minute to think over Dr Freeman's offer. He's right. You are curious. And this adventure looks too good to miss.

Oh, look, sir. I'll do it. Stop. Thanks for exploring Jenny 3000.

You have found zero how to play two possible endings and explore two percent of the story. I'll remember where you left off. Okay, guys. Now you go to different planets.

Apparently I haven't got that far yet, but the developer gave me a top tip and Easter egg. If you get to a point on a planet where you think, mmm, fail, then you can say use time machine and it takes you back and kind of rewinds and takes you back to when you're in your pod and you can choose a different path, a different planet. So yeah, there you go. Journey 3000.

I think it looks really, really good. This is Robin signing off speaking and tomorrow. Feedback comments demos the doctor.podcast at gmail.com. Briefcast.fm.
