dot to dot a new skill every day in five minutes hello welcome to dot to dot i'm sean priest and for today's skill i'm going to be taking a look at something that i've wanted the echo to do for a long time and that is to act as a message board if you've ever left a post-it note on the fridge with a message to a family member or maybe you've got a whiteboard in your kitchen with reminders scrawled on there with black marker for the children well hopefully this skill can do the same thing so let's take a look open family notes welcome to family notes to learn how to use this say what are the commands write a note for sarah that says hello i'm just testing this skill save note hello i'm just testing this skill for sarah and that's it the skill just ends right there now i will say you do need to use the exact phrase i've played around with it a little bit and it seems to work best when you stick to write a note for whoever that says and then whatever your message is let's create another note open family notes say write a note for name that says message or get all the notes write a note for adam that says buy the milk save note buy the milk for adam again it just ends it's a nice and simple skill according to the notes and the description of the skill you should be able to say something like ask family notes to write a message to sarah saying whatever your message is so that you don't have to open the skill directly but i can't get this to work at all let's give it a go tell family notes to write a message for stephen that says why won't this work if you need help with a command say help with and one of the following writing notes getting notes deleting notes listing users adding users or deleting users cancel goodbye now it's not a showstopper it's not a massive deal but it is annoying as it would speed things up even if it is just a little bit anyway now we've created some messages for people how do you listen to them here we go ask family notes to get all notes notes for sarah message one hello i'm just testing this skill notes for adam message one buy the milk if you don't want to hear every note you can say something like ask family notes to get notes for sarah notes for sarah message one hello i'm just testing this skill cool right that could be pretty useful but i have found another problem and that is when it comes to deleting notes again i should be able to say ask family notes to delete notes for sarah and it will delete only sarah's notes sadly if i try and do that it says all notes for all users have been deleted no that's not what i wanted again this does work if you open the skill directly open family notes say write a note for name that says message or get all the notes delete notes for sarah all notes deleted for sarah thank you anyway that is family notes now with just a little bit more polish this could be really useful and something that i've been looking for for a long time but to be honest it doesn't quite feel stable enough those little bugs and hiccups can be really annoying but then again if you've also been looking for a echo message board then why not give it a go see if it works for you thanks for listening feedback comments demos the dr.podcast at gmail.com freecast.fm
