Doctor. The Daily Five-Minute Skilled Emotion, for everyone who's simply dotting about Alexa. Hey guys Robin here now, I know it's not the summer and people aren't planning on going on holiday but it is a season of travel we might well be traveling to parents or family or friends over the Christmas period, it's a social time, Covid not withstanding and packing. He's always a bit of a challenge if you're starting from a blank sheet of paper what am I going to forget what I'm going to remember.
There's a really good skill here called Contiki, Colon, pack my bags and whilst it's kind of holiday I think Americans would say vacation related, it has loads of packing suggestions and it integrates with the A-Ladies lists if you allow it. So when you first open the skill it would say please allow permissions to read and write to the lists in the A-Lady app and you have to go into the app and tap on that notification that's up there on the front on the you know home screen of the app. Now there's one for email as well, I actually didn't tick that one. There's you know read my lists, write to my lists and email and I didn't fancy doing that one it can probably email the version of the packing list to you as well by didn't fancy giving them my email.
So now if you open it, I'll like to open pack my bags. I sure love holidays. Hi there, I'm from a travel company called Contiki. We're connecting young travellers to experience the world.
Only young ones? That's ages. Young at heartbeats. We have over 350 trips across six different continents all throughout the year.
I don't like to boast but Contiki have some great reviews from our amazing travellers. You can read some on our website, kintiki.com. Let's help you get the best from your trip with us so let's get started. Whereabouts are you going on your trip?
Newcastle. Which country was that? Australia, the United Kingdom, South Africa or St Kitts and Nevis? United Kingdom.
I didn't either work quite soon. I actually found two packing lists for United Kingdom. When are you going in the summer or in the winter? Winter.
Well as you're going in the winter, then you'll love our winter packing list for Europe. Do you want to hear these items? Yes. If I had access to your email address, at the end I could send you a packing list to your email box.
I've sent a card to your email app so you can grant me permissions to send you your packing list. But for now, let's continue. First item on the list, a packable jacket. Have you got one?
Yes. Great. This will be good for snuggling up on long journeys. If it's rainy, okay, when it's rainy, you'll need some watery fruits.
Have you packed some? Yes. Perfect. It can get cold in United Kingdom this time of year.
Have you packed some long johns or thermals? No. Because it's not cold at all. No worries.
I've got you. I'll add cosy layers to your list. I see. That's how it works.
Layers are your friend. Do you have a scarf to wrap up in? No. Sweet.
A snuggly scarf is added to your packing list. I see that's how it works. You can never have too many of these. Have you packed plenty of warm socks?
Yes. I'm just going with the fibs now. Who doesn't want toasty toes? Dry.
Chapped skin is never a good look. So then, have you got some lip balm and moisturizer? No. Pup your up and pack your lip balm.
That was about it. Next item I've got gloves with texting pants. Keep warm and keep connected. Do you have some gloves with texting pants?
Yes. I do as a matter of fact. Few. Imagine not being able to grab that view.
Grab that view. Sometimes you might want to have some peace and quiet or just zone out. Have you already got noise cancelling headphones? Yes.
Let's say I have. Crying baby. What crying baby? On your trip.
Remember to say no to plastic bags. Have you packed a tote bag for winter market shopping? Stop. Okay.
Not to worry. We go to some amazing destinations though. Check them out. I can ticky.com.
While you're using your smart speaker, why don't you check out Kintiki's podcast? It's called out of office and you can find it on Apple podcasts on Spotify or Google podcasts. See you later. Okey dokey.
Now, I was thinking that it would just give you the list. I mean, it's really good the way it asks you way going and what time of year because obviously packing for, I don't know, the winter in North of Sweden is very different from the summer in Africa. So yeah, that's good. It knows where things might snow.
I bet at certain times of the year I'll tell you to pack those things as well. So I think there's a lot of sophistication here and it's obviously really good at making you think about things that you might need that you might not think of like noise cancelling headphones, that sort of thing. But I was actually thinking that it would just, once you've identified where you're going and when, it would just blast a long list into your lists on your phone and you could just kind of use that to tick off because this is quite a pedestrian way. It asks you one by one if you've got it and it's got nice sound effects, which is cute, but it's a very pedestrian way of getting to the ones that you haven't got, which then usefully adds to your list.
So yeah, I like it. I mean, it's got a lot of sophistication in there. And if you've got, if you're not in a hurry, this might be a really good way of, yeah, making sure that you don't miss some crucial things. It is so warm here guys.
I've just been out in a t-shirt and I've very then topped to take the hound out. It's mid-December as we know and it's really warm. It's in the teens, which I have no idea what that would be in Fahrenheit. It's warm.
It's definitely not need for thermal socks or thermal underwear or anything like that. Cool. Contiki. I've actually seen the Contiki Ra, that reed ship that sailed across the Atlantic.
Oh, it's his name, Tor. Hi, I can't remember. But yeah, I've seen that in Oslake a long time ago now. But I'm sure that's what the Contiki of this company is named after.
Travel across the world in innovative ways. Brilliant. This is Robin signing off and we'll speak in tomorrow. Feedback comments, demos, the dot-to-dot podcast at gmail.com.
