Doctor. The daily five minute skill devotion for everyone who's simply dotting about Alexa. Hey guys Robin here today we're going to revisit a skill called This Day in History which is powered by the History Channel on the BBC and I thought of it because we are up to episode 1918 which is obviously the end of the First World War which made me think about history and made me think about this skill which we've covered nearly 600 episodes a day so it's well worth a revisit. Every single one is really interesting I think anyway.

Alexa opened This Day in History. Welcome back to This Day in History. From the History Channel April 27th 2009 On This Day in 2009 the struggling American autogiant General Motors GM said it plans to discontinue production of its more than 80 year old Pontiac brand. Would you like to hear more about this event?

Another event from April 27th or an event from a different date? Another Pontiac's Origins Day back to the Oakland Motor Car which was founded in 1907 in Pontiac Michigan by Edward Murphy a horse on Carrie Adventurer. In 1909 Oakland became part of General Motors a conglomerate formed the previous year by another former buddy company executive William Durant. The first Pontiac model made its debut as part of the Oakland line in the 1920s.

The car which featured a six cylinder engine proved so popular that the Oakland name was eventually dropped and Pontiac became its own GM division by the early 1930s. Would you like to hear about another event from April 27th or an event from a different date? November 2nd. November 2nd 1947.

The Hughes Flying Boat the largest aircraft ever built is piloted by designer Howard Hughes on its first and only flight. Built with laminated Bertrand Spruce the massive wooden aircraft had a wingspan longer than a football field and was designed to carry more than 700 men to battle. Would you like to hear more about this event? Another event from November 2nd or an event from a different date?

24th of May. June is pending. May 24th 1883. After 14 years and 27 deaths while being constructed, the Brooklyn Bridge over the East River is opened, connecting the great cities of New York and Brooklyn for the first time in history.

Thousands of residents of Brooklyn and Manhattan Island turned out to witness the dedication ceremony which was presided over by President Chester A. Arthur and New York Governor Grover Cleveland. Designed by the late John A. Robling the Brooklyn Bridge was the largest suspension bridge ever built to that date.

Would you like to hear more about this event? Another event from May 24th or an event from a different date? Stop. Goodbye.

Cool. Now I say it was from the BBC. I think the BBC do have a history channel but this is obviously US centric. This skill as with so many things we you know American related or focused content sneaks in under the radar but that's fine.

It would be nice if it was more global but anyway there you go. This day in history really cool. It would be nice to have a sound effect on too. It's almost odd that there's any skills that don't these days they feel a bit dated but the content's great.

Or kydoki this is driving signing off and we'll speak in tomorrow. Feedback comments demos the dot dot podcast at gmail dot com. Freecast dot FM.
