Dutch Emergency Alert Test Today
from Amsterdam News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Dutch emergency alert system NL-Alert is testing its system today at noon — if your phone’s on a Dutch network, you’ll get a loud notification. It’s just a test, so no panic needed. This happens twice yearly, in June and December, to warn of local emergencies or service disruptions. If you don’t get it, your phone might be in airplane mode, out of signal, or connected to a neighboring country’s tower. iPhone users should check settings; Androids are usually set up automatically. By 2028, NL-Alert could be the Netherlands’ sole emergency warning system — the old air raid sirens are too expensive to replace. The minister says it reaches 92% of the population, but admits gaps for those without phones or during network outages, and parliament is pushing for a backup plan.
