How to turn nature from a charity case into a sustainable asset class.Environmental finance uses financial tools for the good of the environment, working to determine the right price for the use of environmental resources and who should pay for them What if we extended our outlook from the next quarterly results to the next few centuries? We would most likely find that the true cost of natural resources used in various commercial activities is not represented in most cost-benefit analyses of business plans.Which is why, unlike commercial banks, the European Investment Bank carries out separate assessments of potential projects to make sure the real, long-term impact on the environment is mitigated or at least that compensation is made for it.Besides introducing safeguards for projects that might not involve the environment, the bank also finances projects that have a positive environmental impact at the heart of their plans, such as conservation. One recent example is Rewilding Europe, a program that capitalizes on the commercial value of the natural environment by organizing safari tours, providing cabins for nature photography enthusiasts and offering other services that could generate cash to be reinvested into projects that protect pristine ecosystems. But such financing is not just about the wild outdoors: environmental finance can also involve investment in the decontamination of a polluted industrial site in a city so it can be used for a real estate project. Taking care of the urban environment has surprising upsides – with increased urbanization, there will be more space available for nature to flourish outside of those cities.Environmental finance tries to tackle difficult questions, such as who owns natural assets, how to measure social, economic and financial returns on those assets, and who should own those returns. We also learn how environmental finance relates to climate finance, and we are told that the ‘blue economy’ is not always green. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

the ABC of FYTA FYTA FYTA present a series of 26 thematic shows, one for every letter of the english alphabet. Each show introduces concepts, philosophers, poets and music projects whose name starts from each specific letter. In alphabetical order, FYTA re-examine and re-define the world of proper names. The ABC of FYTA heralds the coming of a new language; it is essentially a dictionary of pulses and pauses, a study in nominalism, a post-punk pilgrim, an educational radio program for the masses who struggle to understand the new reality of our times. From Theodor Adorno to Alekna Zupancic and from Aunt Sally to die Zwei the ABC of FYTA will categorise an impossibly chaotic world of influences and contradictions. Oliver Cromwell and the Rule of the Puritans in England by Charles H. Firth (1857 - 1936) LibriVox The Life of Cromwell is in part based on an article contributed by the author to the Dictionary of National Biography in 1888, but embodies the result of later researches, and of recently discovered documents such as the Clarke Papers. The battle plans have been specially drawn for this volume by Mr. B. V. Darbishire, and in two cases differ considerably from those generally accepted as correct. The scheme of this series does not permit a discussion of the reasons why these alterations have been made, but the evidence concerning the battles in question has been carefully examined, and any divergence from received accounts is intentional. The reader who wishes to see this subject discussed at length is referred to a study of the battle of Marston Moor printed in Volume XII. of the Transactions of the Royal Historical Society (new series), and to a similar paper on Dunbar which will appear in Volume XIV.The quotations from Cromwell’s letters or speeches are, where necessary, Ode on Solitude by Alexander Pope (1688 - 1744) LibriVox LibriVox volunteers bring you 16 recordings of Ode on Solitude by Alexander Pope. This was the Weekly Poetry project for September 12, 2021. ------Pope was a poet and satirist of the Augustan period and one of its greatest artistic exponents. Considered the foremost English poet of the early 18th century, after Shakespeare, he is the second-most quoted author in The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, some of his verses having entered common parlance (e.g. "damning with faint praise"). (Wikipedia) The USS Social Enterprise Michael J. Curtis The USS Social Enterprise (or TUSSSE, as nobody is calling it) is a podcast interviewing social entrepreneurs (dictionary time: a person who establishes an enterprise with the aim of solving social problems or effecting social change), finding out the how and why behind what they do. The podcast takes a light-hearted conversational approach to finding out more about social businesses, the men and women behind them and what makes them tick. Perhaps you'll be moved to support their social enterprise or inspired to start up your own. Michael J. Curtis is just a man. A man who knows other men. He also knows women. Some of those women, along with the men, are involved in social enterprise. Listen as he talks to them.
