Colonel Matthew J. Martin, MD Dr. Martin is currently the Trauma Medical Director and Chief of Surgical Critical Care at Madigan Army Medical Center, Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State. He is also the Director of Surgical Research and the former Associate Program Director for the Madigan Army Medical Center General Surgery residency program. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. He is the current Chair of the Army State, Region 13, for the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. He has been deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, service for which he received The Bronze Star as well as many other military distinctions. Dr. Martin completed his undergraduate degree in 1990; a master's degree in Medical Science in 1995, and his medical degree in 1998 all from Boston University. He completed residency training in General Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center in 2003, and a fellowship in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at Los Angeles County Hospital and USC Medical Center in 2005. Dr. Martin has had a prolific literary and research career in the 11 years since completing his formal training which includes contributions to 100s of peer-reviewed publications, authorship of 24 book chapters, and being co-author and editor of two books ("First to Cut: Trauma Lessons Learned in the Combat Zone"; and more recently "Front Line Surgery: A Practical Approach") Lastly, Dr. Martin is a co-host of the podcast Traumacast, a show that discusses topics related to all things trauma surgery.
