To start off the mini-series, we take a look at the last global pandemic: the 1918 Influenza, or the so-called "Spanish Flu." How did Boone County react, and how did people cope? Were they also social-distancing? COVID-19 is far from the only epidemic in Boone County's history, so this episode is hopefully a reminder that communities pull through uncertain times together. Historically Speaking Podcast SYN Media Historically Speaking is a Australian history Podcast with Alex Frame and Andrew Kelso Speaking Historically Corey Foister Covering gaming news and events. English Literature: Its History and Its Significance for the Life of the English Speaking World by William J. Long (1867 - 1952) LibriVox This book, which presents the whole splendid history of English literature from Anglo-Saxon times to the close of the Victorian Era, has three specific aims. The first is to create or to encourage in every student the desire to read the best books, and to know literature itself rather than what has been written about literature. The second is to interpret literature both personally and historically, that is, to show how a great book generally reflects not only the author's life and thought but also the spirit of the age and the ideals of the nation's history. The third aim is to show, by a study of each successive period, how our literature has steadily developed from its first simple songs and stories to its present complexity in prose and poetry. (From the Preface by William J. Long) Family Church NYC Family Church NYC Family Church is located in Astoria, NYC, and our vision is simple: To build a community of faith in Astoria that is wholeheartedly committed to loving God and loving all people. Historically our church has been a place that Portuguese-speaking people have called their church family. However, today, through our English Ministry and a fresh vision to be a church that reflects the diversity of its community, we are a place for all to grow in the faith. We are glad to be able to offer this podcast so you can keep up with the sermons delivered by our pastoral care team.
