Charlie Claire Burgess (they/them) is a tarot reader, teacher, artist, writer, and witch who believes in tarot as a transformative tool for personal revolution. They are the creator of Fifth Spirit Tarot, a queer and inclusive deck for a world beyond binaries, the author of the book-length Fifth Spirit Tarot Guide, and the host of The Word Witch podcast, to name a few of their tarot projects and creations. Charlie teaches tarot classes at Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon, where they live, and offers more classes as well as readings through their business, The Word Witch Tarot. A lot of you are probably familiar with Charlie’s incredible spreads which they’ve been publishing on new and full moons for some time now. We talk about the elements they feel are important for creating good spreads, Charlie gives some great advice for folx who are thinking about creating their own deck, and we launch into a vulnerable and honest conversation about their experience as a non-binary person navigating gender as it appears in traditional Tarot decks.
