They were facing many afflictions whether these afflictions be testimonial, demonic, empathetic and even vicarious. However Paul, who was most likely in a lonely cold and dark prison (which would have most likely been a literal hole in the ground), writing to his church “not to lose heart”. How can we be like Paul and not have our afflictions make us lose affection?
