EP 390: Life Changing Trip to the Northern Territories with Jessi Johnson

from The Rich Outdoors · host Cody Rich: Hunting Podcaster, Outdoorsman, Adventure Seeker

Jessi Johnson is a rare breed human that passionate, well-spoken, and very much driven. By day she works for the Wyoming Wildlife Federation out of Landen Wyoming, but in her free time, she is an avid hunter and outdoorswoman. The type of hunter who doesn’t need someone to hold her hand and is at home on solo hunting trips as with friends. Jessi recently went on an epic trip to The Northern Territories with Bridget Noonan of Firstlite, and like so many the remoteness of the  Northwest Territories might just have changed her forever. If you are a hunter who loves the outdoors you can appreciate everything about this grand adventure that Jessi embarked on. We also talk about archery hunting only. Jessi is not only an avid archery hunter but exclusively hunts with a bow and we talk about how that came to be as well as why she chooses this path even though it means fewer harvests and a lot more failed opportunities. I really enjoyed Jessi’s perspective and how she views the world. Stone Glacier is renowned for making the best lightweight badass technical gear, and the new Chilkoot Sleeping bags prove just that as they once again knocked it out of the park. First off, I am a bit of a cold sleeper in the mountains and have historically been cold on just about every hunt. Last year, I got the Chilkoot 15° bag and have slept dozens of nights in it and haven’t gotten cold once, even when temperatures have dipped past the bag’s temp rating. This bag is by far and away the best sleeping bag I have ever owned. Stone Glacier was able to achieve an overall weight and warmth rating that is the best-in-class. The Chilkoot 15° bag weighs in at an impressively low 2 lbs 3 oz. and is the lightest bag by far that I have ever used. If you are tired of freezing your ass off and want to bag that won’t weigh your pack down head over to StoneGlacier.com and get yourself a Chilkoot sleeping bag, you will thank me in the middle of a cold night. One cool way I have been using this as a solo hunter is that I can not only share a pin with my wife showing where my truck is but I am also able to send her the route I plan to take that way if anything happens they have some idea where I am. This great new feature is also great for sharing routes on how to get to a stand or glassing location.
