Nickels decides to send out an S.O.S., and though it gets picked up by the perfidious scavengers in the area, it also gets picked up by the Coelophysis, which quickly comes to their aid, although bringing with it some very personal and intimate news. That is, the captain of the vessel is Tessa, Nickels ex-mate, and there's a little girl by her side who bears a striking resemblance to Nickels; and Tessa isn't very happy. In addition, Em and Spud still haven't gotten their first date to sprout. And Ship is still complaining about his current lot, dwelling on the days when he, if anything, traveled in class and was in pristine condition.
