EP 558: A Book Ram at 82 with Jim Boorman

from The Rich Outdoors · host Cody Rich

I ran into Jim Boorman on a trail outside of town. Jim is 83 now and walks about 4 miles 3 days a week. Seeing him a couple miles up the trail I decided to stop and chat. Turns out he’s a hunter. He asked why I was running and I told him the only reason I run is to stay in shape for hunting season. He proceeded to tell me about shooting a book ram at 82. You best believe I had to get him on the podcast. Jim has also killed 33 elk and to this day still hunts with a 30-06 Remington pump. Enjoy the pod! Show Notes: Jim’s Sheep Hunt – 03:08 Story Behind the Ram – 14:13 Longevity, Health & Heart Attacks – 18:56 Tech, Wildfires, & Forestry Faults – 23:55 Elk Hunting, Bears & Moose Stories – 36:52 33 Elk & Stories – 48:08 Advice to Self & Hunting Calibers – 51:42 More People & Changing Dynamics – 1:06:52 Life, Purpose, & Kindness – 1:12:00 It’s safe to say  I use On X pretty much daily. With gas prices through the roof scouting from my laptop is a heck of a lot cheaper than driving. I’ve forced myself to dive deeper into all my hunt plans to make sure I’m dialed. One cool thing I like to do is put all my pins in folders this way I can take them on and off. I can hide all my pins and really see the map with a clean slate. Pretty cool feature.
