EP27: Women’s Safety & Transforming Trauma (with KJ) | South Asian, Trauma & Recovery
from It's Preeti Personal · host Preeti Kaur
In June 2019, KJ was walking home at night when she was randomly attacked and stabbed in the leg, since then she’s has been on a journey of recovery, transforming her trauma and helping other people through her instagram page ‘transforming trauma’. I’ve linked KJ’s instagram down below if you want to check it out, it’s a really awesome page and I love her courage for starting it. The last week has been really heavy especially with everything going on with women’s safety and the news of Sarah Everard. The news of her disappearance and murder has opened up the conversation on women’s safety and the fact that a lot of us don’t feel safe when walking home at night even though we’ve taken the massive list of precautions that we’re “supposed” to. Statistics show that 51% of the UK population are female and among all females 80% have experienced sexual harassment. Something that I did want to say that’s been on my chest, I feel like in the last week a lot of people sharing posts about women’s safety are women, but barely any men. We need men to be an ally in this because a lot of times the onus has been on women to protect themselves from men when actually we should be educating men on how to not be a threat.
