சுமார் ஐநூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் ஆந்திர மாநிலத்தில் உள்ள கிராமத்தில் ஒரு ஏழை குடும்பத்தில் தெனாலிராமன் பிறந்தார். பின் விஜயநகர சாம்ராஜ்யத்தின் அரசன் கிருஷ்ணதேவராயரின் அரண்மனை "விகடகவி"யாக இருந்து மன்னரையும் மக்களையும் மகிழ்வித்தான். இவர் விஜயநகரத்தை ஆண்ட அரசர் கிருஷ்ணதேவராயரின் அவையை அலங்கரித்த எட்டு அரசவைப் புலவர்களுள் (அஷ்டதிக் கஜங்கள்) ஒருவர். இவரது வாழ்கையில் நடைபெற்ற சில நகைச்சுவை நிகழ்வுகளை இங்கே உள்ள கதைகளால் அறியலாம்.
