Episode 102 - Of Roots and Wings

  We typically can't see the roots of a living thing.  They are down deep. But we can see the effects.  Strong roots are vital to maturity in the development of our students thus giving them wings to soar.  If left unappreciated, and unsupported, those wings will atrophy.  This is a great responsibility. In this episode of the Educators Among Us podcast, host Scott Barron, Chief Reinvention Officer with School Growth, recites a poem he wrote titled "Of Roots and Wings".  Within the rhyming structure, he reminds us of the importance of providing both 'roots' and 'wings' to students, symbolizing grounding them in values while also encouraging exploration and growth.  The conversation delves into the difficulties of being an educator, and how if we aren't careful, our moods and distractions can cause us to become like weeds that can distract and hinder progress. Barron highlights the significance of self-awareness and the impact of words, urging educators to find joy in their work and to guide students with purpose and wisdom.
