Episode 11: Improving Quality of Life at the End of Life with Dr. Thomas O'Neil

from Empowered with Angela T. Moore · host Angela T. Moore

What would you do if you received a life ending diagnosis? What type of care would you like to receive? What if that care could be provided in the privacy of your own home? Director of Medical Affairs for NorthStar Care Community, Dr. Thomas O'Neil knows the importance of helping individuals and families make those key decision and providing the care and the resources that is needed to improve quality of life. Dr. O’Neil and I talk about Palliative care and hospice care. Palliative care has been shown to prolong life and improve prognosis in patients with certain conditions and if implemented early, not only improves quality of life for patients but also reduces unnecessary hospitalizations and use of health-care services. NorthStar Care Community was awarded a $350,000 grant from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund intended to support program expansion throughout the city of Detroit.  Dr. O’Neil talks passionately about the work and the mission to deliver compassionate care. My guest, Dr. Thomas O-Neil was named Director of Medical Affairs for the NorthStar Care Community in March 2023. In this role, Dr. O’Neil manages members of the not-for-profit’s Medical Affairs team, including all physicians and nurse practitioners at Hospice of Michigan, Arbor Hospice and NorthStar Palliative Care. Dr. O’Neil also serves as director of NorthStar Palliative Care and as the hospice physician for the Hospice of Michigan Detroit/Dearborn team, serving and caring for patients in Wayne County.  NorthStar Care Community (NSCC) preserves and promotes the mission of not-for-profit hospice and palliative care – delivering expert, compassionate care to patients of any age, no matter their diagnoses, complexity of care, place of residence or financial circumstances. https://www.hom.org/ https://arborhospice.org/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/hospice-of-michigan/ https://www.facebook.com/hospiceofmichigan https://www.instagram.com/hospiceofmi/ https://empoweredbyangela.com/  Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
