Jill experienced great pain when her husband of 32 years passed away after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer. While this time in her life was extremely difficult, she did not allow it to decrease her faith. In fact, Jill talks about the many "gifts" she received during this time like the intimate conversations she had with her husband, and ultimately, a closer relationship with her daughter. Jill's energy, mindset, and outlook are a breath of fresh air in a world where so many have a doom and gloom and a "why me?" attitude. Jill even talks about how these types of circumstances in our life are opportunities to ask, "What can I learn?' rather than "Why is this happening to me?" Her perspective is truly one of faith, trust, and wisdom.

The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems.
