Episode 201: The Challenges of Running Trauma Groups. Helen Thomas, MC, RCC, LPC
from The Trauma Therapist · host Guy Crawford Macpherson
I’m excited to announce that Helen Thomas is back on the podcast. I first interviewed Helen back on episode 180 of the podcast (http://www.thetraumatherapistproject.com/podcast/helen-thomas/). After that interview, I knew that I’d want to invite Helen back. She has much to share not just about working with individuals within the context of trauma, but of facilitating trauma groups, as well. I asked Helen if she’d share her knowledge and experience of working with trauma groups. This is something I’ve been remiss in addressing so far on the podcast. So here we go. Helen Thomas holds a Master of Counseling degree from Arizona State University, is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Arizona, and a Registered Clinical Counsellor in the province of British Columbia, where she currently resides. Helen has experience in domestic violence shelter settings and transitional housing programs. She has practiced therapy in trauma-informed community mental health agency settings, as well as a government-funded counseling program for women who have experienced violence in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. Helen currently practices privately in Downtown Vancouver. Her counseling practice, Liv Wellness, offers EMDR therapy, trauma process groups for female adult survivors of child sexual abuse, and skills-based empowerment groups for women. Its home on the web is www.LivWellness.ca (http://www.livwellness.ca/). Her passion project, Take Back Childhood Campaign, has a mission of eradicating child sexual abuse by breaking the societal silence, increasing awareness and education, and supporting research and effective treatment for survivors of CSA.
