Episode 26 - The average age of startup founders (Business English)

from Smart Startup English · host Smart Startup English

In episode 26 of our Business English podcast, we dispel the myth of the young startup founder. According to a 2018 analysis conducted by MIT professors and published in the Harvard Business Review, the average age of entrepreneurs at the time they founded their companies was 42 in the United States. But do you think the age of the founder influences the success of the startup? Here is what the study found. The founders of the top 0.1% of startups, founded these companies when they were 45 years old, on average. The same is true in other countries with a growing startup culture. In Germany, for example, almost 20 percent of tech founders were over the age of 45 in 2016, according to a study by KPMG. A few new words we’re explaining in this episode include: whiz kid, to outpace, to plunge, an outlier.
